Future Funk Squad (Universal/Default/en:vision) - UK
vs.
High Eight (TCR/Re:connect) - UK

Glen Nicholls (FFS) and Neil Briggs (High Eight) started DJ'ing together around 10 years ago, ranging in styles from deep house, big beat, through to Drum & Bass. As time went on they both focussed on the "nuskool breaks" sound after hearing Tipper's remix of the Grooverider single "Where's Jack The Ripper?" and began work on producing tracks. The first single to be released was "Shakedown", a much darker, tougher sound that still sounds fresh today. Following that the pair released "Pulse" which spawned Glen's Default Records label.

Following that, Glen and Neil followed their own production paths with Glen continuing the Future Funk Squad name that had already started gaining interest, and Neil later with his High Eight project.

The debut Future Funk Squad album, due for release in early 2006, was a labour of love for Glen who has brought together talented vocalists and songwriters, plus a top notch MC, to produce a varied and surprising mix of breaks, hip hop and electronica. Glen has also kept up his dancefloor duties by completing remixes for Moloko, Sander Kleinenberg, Mylo and more recently The Prodigy.

Neil's High Eight project is still very much in it's infancy, but gaining support quickly. His debut single on Re:Connect Recordings was a very different sound to his more recent works which have now taken a much more 80's influenced approach, whilst still maintaining the breaks sound. The second single "Open Your Eyes/Thru Time" was a big hit with the many differing sides of the breaks fraternity, and his remix work continues having scored a major release with TCR records, namely his reworking of Rennie Pilgrem's "Gladiator". In 2005 Neil got the opportunity to work with one of his favourite 80's icons - Howard Jones - with a remix of his first single "New Song".

This year sees the two regroup for some special "versus" gigs, bringing both their individual sounds together to form a soundclash of dirty, funky, tough breaks. They have also completed some collaborative remixes for Breaks 4 Ever (Flack.su - Darknesscape) and En:Vision (DJ Phully - Daft Fader), with more to come.
